If you clicked above, you now have your first website! That was not difficult, was it? What if I said “you can have 2 of these websites FREE? Oh, My, she must be a looney tune. Not true. I have built my business from these same humble beginnings. I can ‘tongue in cheek’ as well as actually make you a promise: When you have read this post, and you want to claim your 2 FREE websites, I can make that happen.

First – Let’s start with the How & Why of building a website. Specifically why YOU need one. We will delve into what ensures a successful website – Inclusions and Exclusions.

Website Construction

In order for a website to promote your business, It must have two vital components.

1. A Domain name.

This is your website’s name. My domain here is  In this case, I own this name and it may not be used by anyone else. The same is true for you when you name your site

2. A hosting platform.

Each website must be hosted – that is housed on a large server which is private or public. The server is

WordPress Websites

the connection to the world-wide web (the internet). Some companies charge a lot of money to host your website. Not here. The siterubix domain is hosted by WordPress, one of the world’s largest hosting platforms.

So…. To continue after you select your website name and it is hosted, you will need to address several areas as part of the support for your website.  It is essential that your website is secure, current, reliable, backed-up regularly and ready to support your online passion for business.

What are these necessary areas that must be in place?

  • Site layout and design – A theme that describes and enhances your offerings
  • Site back up – Off site secure backup to protect against unforeseen issues
  • Content development – Enhancements for font size, images and look & feel of your site
  • Email, social media and other interactive plugins – Leverage contact with your audience
  • Site health checker – An automated site crawler to make sure all links work, content is fresh, etc.
  • Security – Protection against hackers

These are required for any successful website. And…. they all cost money. This is an area requiring caution. Several companies lure you in with a very low cost but once you add the features the cost accelerates rapidly. You can pay around $200 per month for security alone. Adding the other required pieces and you will find yourself paying a huge monthly billing. May I please repeat myself, RELAX. When I said free at the start I meant FREE.

Why do YOU need a website?

The world of business demands online presence to succeed. “Just Google it” is a common phrase among people in this fast moving 2017 world. People go online to locate, check reviews, check availability and costs before purchasing services or products. And… the eventual purchase is usually conducted online as well.

And that is just the start – Online shopping is changing also! The proliferation of mobile devices has revolutionized online shopping. Most purchases are now conducted using the customer’s cell phone. What does that mean to you? I means your website must be optimized to work well on all mobile devices. This is not supported automatically by many of the providers. Mobile optimization is a whole new level of computer code supporting the webpages.   This is not to say, your site must be friendly for the laptop, desktop and giant monitors in use as well. We are fortunate! Our host, WordPress optimizes all websites so we are ready for mobile traffic the moment we set them up.

Any business is built on the principle of solving a problem or providing a solution, whether it is on or offline. A business website should be no different. People come to a website because they have a need or want advice on a particular issue. If you can build a website that caters to that need or provides that advice then people will trust in your site and will be influenced by the advice that your site gives them.

What does a successful website contain?

This depends on your business venture. If you are a retail store-front showing a catalog of items, the website is simply an online store front. However, if you are offering advice, service, recommendations, reviews and competition, your website must focus on these two items:

  1. Clear focus and expertise in a niche target market.

What is a niche target market? A niche is a single area of focus. For Example, weight-loss for women. While this may appear narrow and without the reach to build a large business, it is actually a market that easily expands into food, cooking, supplements, clothing, exercise, and all the elements that surround those expansions.

Notice I did not recommend the health industry. That is too broad. Health affects everyone in our world; we would be trying to do something for everyone. Your website would never be noticed. However, by choosing a specific area within health you are targeting a particular segment of people.

I have a website specifically related to Aging. We are all aging and some are more affected than others. If starts to become noticeable at around age 40 if steps have not been taken to minimize the effects. That is where my term Age Adjuster originated. I am 77 years old chronologically, but my metabolic age is 52. So, reducing the effects of Aging is an area I know and want to help others gain the upper hand.  I can use my site to become an authority, share experts’ discussions as well as vet chosen products.

Your customers are looking for sound content. Google ranks your website based on its content. Content is Essential – it Reigns. It is only through quality content that you establish yourself as an authority within your chosen niche. Without pertinent, clear, useful content your site will not be used. It joins billions of floating text in cyber space.

This may cause a little trepidation on your part. Do not go there. You do not have to be an accomplished writer to publish quality content. Please remember your passion, your dream and your interest. Your chosen niche does not have to be an area you are an instant expert. It just needs to be compelling to you to do due diligence – search, study, write and publish. Creating content is you talking about those things. In my example, earlier, regarding my niche on Aging, I write about things I have experienced. People who visit my site are looking for help, insight, and solutions. What do I gain? I gain more authority and credibility.

Content and Search Engines

All content is reviewed by search engines. Their software ‘crawls’ all over the content searching for common ground, attraction factors to searchers, plagiarism or attempts to fill the content with keywords but lacking continuity or value. To succeed your website must rank high within the search engines including google, bing and yahoo. As stated above, the key to rankings is quality content. Search engines are looking at how you engage your viewers, how they react, their comments and how long they stay on each visit. Your focus is on Your niche and your customers are seeking your expertise.

The result of your efforts from the search engine point of view is, your site is an authority site in your niche. Their response is to move your website identification to the first pages seen by your customers.  That is rank your site very high when anyone does a search looking for what you are expressing.

Content is King “Bill Gates”

Once your website ranks high within the search engines algorithms, you have reached a level of authority within your niche market. The search engines will consistently direct viewers to your page as it will post on the first view following their search. Your contents goal is to provide our viewers with advice, solutions, and information they are seeking. As they delve into your presented knowledge, you gain credibility and the viewers are confident and purchase your products or services.

Successful websites do NOT…..

  • Try to be all things to all people – as stated early in this post, chose and focus on a niche market. For details on determining Your niche, I have embedded a teaching link here.
  • Be seen as spam – careful selection and good judgment surround your choices of advertisements placed on your website pages and posts. I personally do not like sites that are too busy, have moving parts or flash. I prefer to deal with a subject and promote products and services that relate directly to that specific topic. I treasure my reputation and will not damage it with shameful or inaccurate advertisements. By the way, the search engines also will NOT rank you if they determine you are not providing content, just advertisements. So… advertising products via your personal quality product review will result in increased sales
  • Plagiarize – as discussed above, your content must be original and written by you or your hired writer. It must reflect your research, your thoughts, and your commitments. Your original content must engage your readers. At the risk of redundancy – do not copy and paste from another’s site, from a book or magazine or from a webinar without permission. Not only will this reduce your rankings, you will not be seen or respected as the authority. The search engine will know and you may be brought up on legal charges.

What is an Affiliate Program?

What is an Affiliate Program?

Affiliate Marketing – Key to Success

As a Beginner, how do I make money with Affiliate Programs?

Until about 3 months ago, I had never heard of Affiliate programs. I did follow several recipe blogs and the author would indicate she is using her favorite tool and the company rewards her for recommending it. But, I did not realize what it was.

Today, like being pregnant, everywhere I look I hear about affiliate marketing programs. LOL

My intention with this post is to enlighten you to the inner workings, the benefits and the challenges of affiliate marketing. You can make an intelligent informed decision if you want to join me in this adventure.

I need to tell you my impression of affiliate programs and this is backed up with data from several sources. I believe you must know and love the products you recommend. Now, this does limit your offerings but lets me know I am offering a genuine service and not just chasing the dollar.

However, let me stress that just because you love a product or service and the company selling it, you must do due diligence. We must research the merchant’s conversion rates. This ensures we are working as a team with the merchant – we advertise for them and they pay us a fair rate. Seeking the highest most valuable converting offers does not mean sacrificing who you are or your credibility.

My one-word Purpose is Passion. I believe our passion is revealed in our content through our sincerity. We will look at high value, high converting offers on high-quality sites to make our selections.

The Basics of All Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs are based on recommendations by the Publisher (you and me) posted on our websites. The customer sees the post, clicks on the provided link with the description and is transferred to the Merchant site for acquisition. Products need to be advertised to make them known to potential interested customers; thereby the company remains solvent o provide quality products and good customer service. Who are these players?

  1. Publisher (An individual like You & Me with an established indexed (via Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc) website that is used to promote products that we have used, reviewed and are willing to recommend.
  2. Merchant (The company offering the products from the manufacturers. Some examples include Amazon, Wal*Mart, and Target). These Merchants offer a huge variety of products, gift cards, and registries.
  3. Customer (The World is shopping 24/7 on the internet). Frequently the Merchant will offer special pricing that we can share in our ads to increase customer awareness and spending.

What is the benefit for each player?

Publisher – We are paid a commission for sales and/or clicks. Several companies offer small remuneration to the publisher for customers clicking within their site.

Merchant – Increased sales due to generated new interest via the Publisher’s website.

Customer – Increased knowledge and availability of products that have a representation of reviews by third party persons.

How are we (Publishers) Paid?

The standard commission plan is also made up of three parts:

  1. Pay-per-sale – the affiliate (publisher) is paid when a customer arrives and purchases one or more products at a Merchant site. Some merchants pay a percentage of the sale while others pay a fixed amount.
  2. Pay-per-click – the merchant rewards the affiliate based on people (traffic) to their site. Each unique person clicking into the merchant site generates a small commission for the affiliate. No purchase is required for this type – we are paid for the click.
  3. Pay-per-lead – some merchants prefer to receive details of the potential customers viewing their site. There is usually a sign-up form which includes the customer name, email and occasionally a phone number. The merchant pays the affiliate for each customer who fills out the form and transmits it back to the company.

How the Program Works

These programs appear to be seamless as they are controlled via the merchant computer systems in the background. If you are an affiliate with your own website, you may contact the merchants and request to become an affiliate. Some, like Vitamix, limit the number of affiliates. But, most do not. Some will review your website to determine if you represent a publisher who is likely to move their products.

All affiliate generated activity is carefully tracked. The merchant assigns each publisher a unique Affiliate ID which is carried with each transaction by all customers who arrive via our publisher site. The customer activity including purchases is credited to the publisher during that transaction.

We may, as affiliates, review our data on the Merchant’s specific affiliate link area. All advertising or mention of the merchant in our blogs or ads carries our affiliate ID. Once the customer enters the merchant site, this ID identifies them as OUR customer

The Merchant’s create all advertiser material. We are able to create our own and have it authorized, but why add to the time and expense. Most merchants provide banners, squares and thumbprint sized advertisement with our affiliate ID already imbedded in the code. We need only to add the HTML code to our pages. The best use of these tools is to display them within your blog text so they enhance your details and not become a distraction. I personally do not use any moving ad inserts.

To determine which ads are generating the most traffic and revenue, we may research all the analytics. The Merchants, especially those that promote and track numerous companies offerings, have plug-ins to track all our traffic from EACH ad type.

Which Merchants’ Affiliate Program should I Choose?

The first recommendation is to stay within your niche. You may think this is too limiting, but I recommend one of Kyle’s teachings to explore where a single niche can take you. For example, a niche of painting with water-colors will obviously lead to brushes, canvas, etc. But, it also may lend itself to travel, hotels, clothing and relaxation techniques. The list is usually endless. If you have not selected your niche yet, I recommend a visit to “What is My Why” to discover your Why.

For this discussion, we will assume you have chosen your niche and have researched available companies (merchants) that are compatible and would make a good relationship. And… you know your competition. Another key ingredient is to have selected keywords (more teaching by Kyle) that are relevant and generating positive activity on Google. We are also assuming you have chosen the type of affiliate program you are interested in pursuing – per click, per purchase, etc.

An area you may not have finalized before selection of merchants is their reputation. They must sell good products, have exceptional customer care, use wisdom in selecting mailing rates, have a defined and acceptable return policy and be known to pay their affiliates on time and with sound funds.

You may think you should always choose the one who pays higher commissions.  Not true. If conversions are the same, then yes, maybe.  But, if they are not the same then do a little figuring.  Conversion techniques and associate rates may be complex. This is an area for further study.

Just as you strive to make your website the most appealing and useful it can be, you are looking for merchant’s that create, update and maintain a great website. Make sure you can navigate easily and find what you’re looking for. Sometimes the site is so convoluted with details it makes it difficult to find the specific product. Plus, we really want our customers to be drawn to the merchant site on this visit as all purchases made on this visit are credited to us. Return visits are not linked to our affiliate ID.

As mentioned above, check out shipping and handling charges. Some merchants add expensive handling charges or are not well set up with shippers and the costs sore. I have heard of a person buying a 9.95 article only to pay $12.00 for shipping nd handling. Inexcusable in my book. Some will not only overcharge for shipping, but the delivery times are too slow to be useful to our customers. This practice hurts our customer and us. Make sure the website is overall inviting — you must comfortable buying from their site

Affiliate Link Staying Power

Are you familiar with cookies? Not chocolate chip but the variety that tracks computer activity and leaves a trail? Most of our customers leave cookies on. This means they can get back to a site easily and the site knows who they are. Cookie duration is a term used in the affiliate marketing arena to indicate how long a merchant site knows our customer if they should log back in using the same IP address (the location and ID of their computer). A 30-day cookie retention means when our customer clicks on the merchant link from our site, we will be paid commissions for all acquisitions for each visit during that 30 days. Some merchants offer 60 days and a very few do 90 days. These are difficult to find. Some like Amazon offer 24 hours ID retention. Determining their average order value is another indicator of a good choice for your comparisons.

One area I have run into that is troubling, is the unavailability of deep linking. I am an Associate for Univera and deep linking is an issue. I want to assist my customer’s access to the product directly for ease of shopping. If they chose to wander around on the site and buy additional items, that is a plus. But, to make them search for their purchase is unacceptable. This ability to direct them to a specific address within the merchant site is called deep linking.

Start Earning Online – Home-based Business

“Would you pay $100 to start earning bigger monthly checks?”

That is a message I received this morning from a very well-known Network Marketing Coach. He goes on to say that Network Marketing (Multi-level Marketing) is the fastest growing method to increase your wealth known today.

I must agree and disagree.

He is charging $100 for a 3-hour training seminar to teach you to succeed. Now, on the surface, that seems to be a ‘good deal’. And, I have taken some of his training in the past and it is sound and well presented. But, I am now clearly more in favor of training wrapped tightly within a web design university course for a single low price with no upsell!  And…. FREE startup to try BEFORE you buy.  But… that is me.

The key to any business is relationships. The instructor described who is charging stresses relationships and gives excellent insight as to how to build those relationships. But… with Network Marketing, you ONLY make money IF you build a huge ‘downline’ made up of mostly other business persons who are building their downline. The problem is you must have a huge in-person social following to attract these followers, AND they want to build a business. (I know many Network Marketers that have a good following with products but cannot build a business. Some have one in their line that is successful; then their line is ‘out of balance’ and they are not receiving the higher paychecks.

Please do not think I am ‘slamming’ Network marketing. There are some good companies in our world, with excellent products, credibility, and good pay plans. I can speak to this industry as I have tried it three times. Two scam companies and one excellent company. I have never made even enough to cover the products I use from said companies.

So, what to do? I do agree that our ambitious hard-working individuals in the world are becoming more in-tune with working less, playing more and wanting greater incomes. That, my friend, means residual income. To learn more about residual income, please go to My Page on Residual Income.

I believe I have found the answer. I am now part of a global community of Attraction Marketing enthusiasts. You may say, ‘a new name for the same old?”. NO. This is NOT an MLM. This is YOU pursuing YOUR passions and providing a method for enhancing your industriousness to WORK for YOU – Not making someone else wealthy.

Even that model is not for everyone. Some of you may just want a place online to ‘show off your photos’, talk about your passion of rebuilding old cars or cooking. What is the key to it all? What is YOUR Why?

Having your own website!

I can show you how to own your own website for about $30 per month. AND….. that INCLUDES university level training, 25 websites should you want them J, a worldwide community ready, skilled and willing to help you, website hosting, website protection tools and so much more. There is NO UPSELL. The fee is locked in at purchase and covers everything.

There are so many scams “out there” that it is hard to know what to do. But, I can tell you, paying $100 to learn how to be successful in Network Marketing compared to a yearly total of about $350 for an up and running website is a no-brainer.

Now, to the money side. Chose to use your website for your fun, hobbies, etc. and… you are not looking to make money doing it. Is that right? Well…. Let’s talk about that. Do you have friends that would love to be able to share their passions with others in a professional way on Facebook, Twitter, etc.? If your friends decide to pursue their own website, you refer them and you are paid a small fee monthly for doing so. How cool is that? Plus, you can add a small professionally looking advertisement like this on your fun site and other enthusiasts that you do not know may want to follow in your footsteps. There is no commitment, no fee and no contract to get started. You may try it for FREE. You even are given the first level training absolutely free. If you decide to become premium you open all the doors of the university for no added cost.

Could YOU earn more by unlocking YOUR passion and incorporating it into a business?

I believe the answer is YES. You could accomplish your goals, attain your dreams and become part of the New Rich by utilizing the powerful tool of Internet Search Engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo working for you, 24/7, 365 days a year.

So….how much money you would WANT to earn and WHAT time commitment you are willing to make to succeed. Why?

There is another side to having your own website. You can become what is called an Affiliate Marketer. This means you actively promote other companies that you know offer quality products or services, AND you are willing to put your name behind. You must own your website and apply to each company for a no cost partnership. Then you place ads of varying sizes and text on your site to offer your visitors the opportunity to purchase. The companies you are representing pay you per click or per purchase for a specified period of time for each customer. Example: If you partner with Amazon and promote a pair of snow skis that you know well; and, people click on them and not only buy the skis but buy a jacket and poles – you are paid for each item purchased. This link is open for 24 hours in case they come back using the same ID and purchase a new blender for the kitchen.  LOL

Side note: once you are recognized in the various categories, you may receive requests from companies to partner with you!  This happened to me just last week. I was approached by a travel company in Europe to represent them on my pages. I do a fun travel log with a small offering of products I like that are related to travel. – I was thrilled! (Now, I did vet them and am confident they are real, honest and credible).

How does this sound to you?  Likely you have questions. I did. But, I can tell you I have been doing this for a while now and I find each day rewarding, fun and profitable. I want you to build your dreams, attain your success and spend time doing what You want. This is really a simple process with full support to train you, encourage you and give you the opportunity to attain that Freedom from the 8-5 making someone else rich. This does not even count your long commutes, wear and tear on your auto, fuel and clothes budget. I work from home, often in my pajamas. I schedule my time as I want, I take breaks or not, I eat lunch in or out and I work all night if I want. FREEDOM!
